Berlin, architecture & skate in large format photos
“Architecture reproduces itself within those who use the space in question, within their lived experience.”
This project combines our interest in architecture with our interest in the practice and culture of skateboarding. The subversive use that skateboarders make of architecture and urban furniture is something that has always attracted us also in a conceptual way. The original use for which it was designed is irrelevant to skaters. They just see the shapes and surfaces that architecture offers. So skateboarding can be seen as an activity of "creative use of public space".

Classical architectural theories perceive the city as a fixed entity governed by rules, while skateboarding reimagines it as a dynamic space in constant flux, fostering the flow of ideas, activities, and events. Sociologists like Debord and Lefebvre have introduced the concept of architecture's social and cultural applications. However, architects often focus on producing spaces rather than considering the needs of various city users. Skateboarding serves as a critique, compelling architects to reconsider conventional spatial notions and prioritize experiences, freedom, and inclusive frameworks for all users.
